Student's comments

my name is Alec and I am from Glasgow, Scotland. I have studied here on and off since August 2007. On my first visit, I stayed for 11 months, then took a break for 6 months and have recently returned for another year. I have seen many changes since the school first opened and all of them have been positive steps forward. Qu Shifu, the headmaster of the school, is one of the kindest most caring people I have ever met. He truly loves his students and is committed to them learning genuine Kungfu in a traditional way. He is not the kind of person who will teach watered-down Kungfu to gullible ‘foreigners? Everything he teaches is genuine traditional Chinese Kungfu. He is a good friend and someone whom I can trust, depend upon and whom I know has my best interests at heart. He is very approachable and always makes time to talk to any of the students about any questions they may have regarding their stay here.

I study Traditional Shaolin Kungfu with my Master and friend Wang Shifu. He is patient, kind and considerate and I can’t even begin to list the amount of things he has taught me. My confidence has soared since coming here, my fitness has improved dramatically and my knowledge of theory, application and Qi Gong becomes greater every day. For me, Wang Shifu is a fantastic teacher as his teaching style seems to fit perfectly with my style of learning. I am guided through the various phases of development at just the right pace for me, ensuring that learning is maximised and I am stretched and pushed, but never too far or too fast that it has a detrimental effect on my training. I have had the pleasure of being his student for some time now and wish to study with him for as long as I possibly can.

All of the Masters here have exceptionally good Kungfu, and in my opinion, we have three of the best Masters available to foreigners anywhere in China. The best thing about the school is that all of the Masters take the time to explain the fine details of each and every movement. It is these details which make the difference between movements and applications being effective or not. Our accommodation is both comfortable and clean and the food is fantastic. We have many facilities at our disposal which are not available at other schools and we enjoy training in a peaceful and tranquil setting. I would recommend our school to anyone who is serious about learning genuine Kungfu in China and would be pleased to answer any questions prospective students may have.

Studying under Qu Shifu is a really great experience. I had been ill for a long time before I came to China and I came to study with the intent of regaining my health. Qu shifu trained me in the internal arts of Qi Gong and Ba Gua to build my strength. I began to see a clear and steady improvement in my health as symptom after symptom gradually began to fade. The Qi Gong I have learned here with Qu is infinitely better than that which is generally taught in the west, there is no comparison. Qu’s Qi Gong level is awesome, when you see the control he has over his internal energy and he demonstrates the power, it is truly amazing and you realise he is a genuine master. Here you get to learn real kungfu with traditional internal training.

It is so fortunate for us that Qu has decided to teach foreigners, he is very good at it. When a new student arrives you can see him teach each person in a different way, adapting his teaching style to each student’s needs and personality.

The school itself is also a great place to stay and to learn. Surrounded by mountains and lakes and farmland. It’s a great place to come especially if you have come from a polluted city. The school has a well equipt gym, basketball courts, badminton, table tennins etc. I was not expecting our living conditions to be so good but they are fantastic and you really couldn’t want for anything more. The students are extremely well looked after and the school is incredibly generous, even giving gifts on special occasions. But to be honest I would be happy with much more basic conditions as long as I can be taught by Qu shifu and see him demonstrate his amazing kung fu skills.

I spent one year in China training traditional Chinese kungfu under all three of the masters here.

The Shaolin forms taught here are traditional and practical, Wang Sifu is a really nice guy, very funny and possesses incredible speed and strength.

The Mantis fist taught by Qu Sifu is simply amazing. Qu Sifu is the most highly skilled martial artist I am likely to ever meet and it has been an incredible experience training with him. Everything he teaches focuses on the practicality of strengthening your body and fighting an opponent.

Taichi is an optional class taught by Cui Sifu. Not everyone takes to it but I thoroughly enjoyed it. There is a lot to be learned in Taichi about balance, strength and coordination, all useful skills you can apply to other disciplines. Cui Sifu is a fantastic teacher, patient and precise.

The facilities at the school are all excellent, the food‘s good, showers are hot, water is clean, there’s a fully equipped weight room, a working washing machine and clean toilets. Everyone gets a room to themselves with free internet access and there are no hidden charges. Sometimes there are even free bonuses thrown in, mountain hikes or a trip to the beach!

I arrived at the school with a basic level of fitness, average flexibility and little experience of martial arts. I have lost weight, put on muscle and developed martial skills under some of the best kungfu masters in the world. Awesome :)
